As part of a multi-year Federal grant project called ‘Reducing Plastic Waste in Urban Waterways’ (2019-2021), Junction Creek Stewardship Committee and Plastic-Free Greater Sudbury have been working together to fill knowledge gaps and increase awareness of plastic waste in Junction Creek. Project activities have included litter monitoring and garbage tallies at clean-ups to assess the problem and inform mitigation strategies, and engaging community stewardship through clean-up events and educational programs. 

As a result, Plastic-Free Greater Sudbury was able to develop a ‘Junction Creek Plastic Awareness Report’, summarizing litter and plastic waste issues in Greater Sudbury, the level of concern and awareness by residents, and recommendations for taking action.
