Bat House Fundraiser
Bats play a vital role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. As natural pest controllers, they are the main predator of insects at night. They help reduce insect populations, benefiting both public health and biodiversity.
Sudbury is home to 8 amazing bat species! Sadly, 7 out of the 8 Ontario species of bats are endangered due to habitat loss, climate change, and disease. To help reverse this trend, JCSC is taking action through a multi-pronged approach:
- Monitoring to fill data gaps on local bat activity
- Habitat restoration to create safe roosting and foraging areas
- Community engagement to raise awareness and involve citizens in bat conservation
You can make a difference by supporting local bat monitoring and conservation efforts.
JUNCTION CREEK BAT HOUSES
Bat houses are a great way to support local bat populations by providing safe, sheltered roosting spaces for maternity colonies where mothers raise their pups. Plus, bats make great neighbours! They help control mosquitos and insects throughout the spring and summer.
The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee has launched a fundraising initiative featuring conservation-grade bat houses designed to help bats thrive while supporting ongoing monitoring and conservation efforts in Greater Sudbury. Unlike many commercially available bat houses that often lack key design elements, our bat houses follow the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s guidelines to ensure they meet the highest standards for safety, effectiveness, and long-term use by bats.
