Earth Day Celebration – April 18th
Join us on April 18 from 11:00AM – 3:00PM for a family-friendly Earth Day Celebration! Hosted at the Main Sudbury Library, this event is a collaboration of local organizations coming together to celebrate caring for each other and the land through hands-on activities, learning, and meaningful connection.
What to expect:
- Repair café with reThink Green, including toy repair with The Little Wooden Library, and bike tune-ups & simple repairs
- Clothing swap with Closet share, and mending with Afro Women and Youth Foundation and community crafters
- Nature activities with BBBF Indigenous-led, Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury and Junction Creek Stewardship Committee, and kids’ activities with EarlyON Child and Family Centres
- Making with Myths: create Wanted Posters for community needs, with Myths and Mirrors Community Arts, in the Makerspace, 11am – 2pm
- Connections to local community groups
- Connect to your local community garden with the Sudbury Community Garden Network. Ask a gardener: ask experienced local gardeners your questions about growing food, wildflowers, and native plants.
- Announcement of Project Impact results at 11:30am. Hear about the wonderful grassroots projects being supported by community!
- Book Talk and Public Joy Mapping with the amazing Jay Pitter at 1:00pm. Jay Pitter is a Public Space Practitioner, Adjunct Urban Planning Professor, and Author. Community is at the centre of her work. Her book Black Public Joy explores Black people’s public joy histories, sacred rituals, movements, and contemporary expressions while positioning public joy as civic, cultural, and spatial infrastructure. It can be found on shelves across North America. Giveaways of some copies will be made during the event. Brought to you by Compass/Boussole/Akii-Izhinoogan & Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury, with support from Thriving African Families, Sudbury Workers Education and Advocacy Centre, Black Lives Matter Sudbury, Myths and Mirrors Community Arts, and reThink Green.
